Things to do in Paris

Paris is where you sleep; everything else on this site is a day out from here. The city spirals across 20 arrondissements, numbered clockwise from the 1st around to the 20th, with the Seine splitting the Right Bank to the north from the Left Bank to the south.

Arrival depends on which airport you land at: Charles de Gaulle sits about 25 kilometres northeast, linked by RER B, while Orly is closer, roughly 13-14 kilometres south, reachable on metro line 14 since June 2024; Beauvais is a different story, some 85 kilometres north with a shuttle to Porte Maillot that takes well over an hour.

Since January 2025, Île-de-France Mobilités runs two single tickets, Metro-Train-RER and Bus-Tram, loaded onto a Navigo Easy card or a phone. The Seine, Montmartre, the Marais and the Latin Quarter are neighbourhoods within Paris, not separate towns, so no special transport is needed to reach them, unlike the excursions further out into Île-de-France.
